The Sundance-winning horror film Nanny is a hugely anticipated release, with Amazon emerging triumphant in the battle to purchase the project.
Nanny, helmed by debut feature writer/director Nikyatu Jusu, has been making huge waves. It holds the distinction of being the first ever horror film to win the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and continues to be a highly-anticipated release for 2022. The process to sell the rights to the film have been ongoing with several companies reportedly keen to secure it. However,
Deadline is reporting that Amazon has triumphed, paying a reported $7m for
Nanny's worldwide rights.
It looks like the film will launch under the Blumhouse banner as reports suggest that Jason Blum was instrumental in bringing the film to the streaming platform, as part of the ongoing production deal that he has with Amazon. Happily, it is also believed that a theatrical run has been agreed for the film too.
The synopsis for the film reads as thus: ‘The film stars Anna Diop (
Us) as a Senegalese immigrant nanny, piecing together a new life in New York City while caring for the child of an Upper East Side family, who is forced to confront a concealed truth that threatens to shatter her American Dream. Michelle Monaghan (
The Craft: Legacy), Sinqua Walls (
The 15:17 to Paris), Morgan Spector (
The Gilded Age), and Rose Decker (
Mare of Easttown) also star.’
Nikaytu Jusu has already signed up with Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Universal for her next feature, so whilst we’re keenly keeping an eye out for details regarding
