Boris Johnson and Sajid Javid confirm an easing of restrictions, that will allow cinemas to go full capacity from next week.
The UK government confirmed yesterday that plans to list restrictions on cinemas in England at least will be going ahead. From 19th July, in line with the relaxation on Covid rules, cinemas will be allowed to offer full capacity screenings in England, and it will no longer be compulsory to wear a mask when visiting one. Social distancing in cinemas will also come to an end.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed the easing of restrictions yesterday, albeit with a warning that “the pandemic is not over”. Projections for the summer certainly don’t look on the happy side.
A recommendation to wear face coverings in crowded indoor settings remains in place, but this is now guidance rather than anything legal.
Most cinemas will be taking advantage of the opportunity to offer full capacity screenings again, although some venues will continue to be on the cautious side.
This all comes as big movies have started doing familiar levels of business at the US box office at least.
