Whether itās a film or series is unclear, but Netflix is reportedly keen for David Fincher to remake hit series Squid Game.
David Fincher has a long-running association with Netflix, dating back to
House Of Cards and the companyās first foray into original programming. In fact, at the moment heās just past the midpoint of an exclusive deal with the company that will see him produce projects for Netflix and Netflix alone until the end of 2024.
The next project to emerge as part of that deal will be the assassin movie
The Killer, which will star Michael Fassbender and reportedly hit Netflix in November. According to Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, though, Netflix has already earmarked Fincher for another project, an English-language remake of
Squid Game, its smash global series in which contestants of a series of games must battle to survive or face grisly deaths.
The report comes via Sneiderās
Twitter account and whilst not every one of his scoops comes to fruition, he has a pretty good track record. Still though, we hope this one proves not to be the case. Fincher projects are always a treat, but even with his spin on things this is a story that doesnāt need to be retold, not when the original South Korean show is already so widely beloved.
Given that he likes to take his time with things, Fincher may only have one project left before completing his deal with Netflix, so weāre hoping that a remake of a globally-seen TV show (thatās already almost perfect) isnāt it. Still, given his long-standing association with the company, thereās every chance heāll continue to work with them beyond 2024, so this could happen at some point if Fincher himself is interested. Sneider claims multiple sources have verified this story but claims to have no idea as to whether Fincher is engaged with the idea. Whatever happens, weāll let you know more if we hear it.ā
