As previous reports suggested, Killers Of The Flower Moon will be getting a wide theatrical release as part of Apple’s shifting distribution strategy.
As far back as last summer, Cannes was being billed as the world premiere date for Martin Scorsese’s highly-anticipated serial killer period drama,
Killers Of The Flower Moon. Apple has financed the drama, which has a reported budget of $200m, a star-studded cast, and Scorsese seemingly having carte blanche to make the film that he wants to. Whilst that Cannes appearance has yet to be confirmed, the thinking was that the patrons of the annual French film festival might be among the few to get to enjoy the film on a cinema screen.
However, recent
reports suggest that Apple is now set on a splashy move into theatrical distribution and
Flowers of the Killer Moon looks like being a key part of that strategy. As such, it has been confirmed that the film (in partnership with Paramount) will release in select US cinemas on October 6th, before enjoying a much wider release on October 20th. At some point after that, the film will come to Apple TV+, probably around December time we’d imagine.
The period drama starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone and Robert De Niro ‘takes place in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts a string of brutal murders of Osage Nation Native Americans, which came to be known as the Reign of Terror. The Osage Nation, who were the richest people per capita in the world, were killed one by one after oil was discovered on their land. As the death toll rose, the newly-created FBI took up the case and unraveled a chilling conspiracy and one of the most monstrous crimes in American history.’
Depending on the sturdiness of your posterior, you may want to think carefully about where you watch this one as the film is reportedly set to give Scorsese’s
The Irishman a run for its money when it comes to length. Back in February it was reported that the film’s three hour and 20 minute runtime was proving to be a problem for the Cannes Film Festival with organisers struggling to program the film due to its current unwieldy length. Still, whether you choose to enjoy
Killers Of The Flower Moon at the cinema or from the comfort of your own sofa, it’s lovely to have the choice. We’ll bring you UK release details as we hear them.
