Lionsgate’s first Hunger Games spin-off movie in the billion-dollar franchise is coming next year, it has been revealed.
Lionsgate has announced when we can expect to see the next addition to The Hunger Games series, a franchise that has made nearly three billion dollars so far at the box office alone.
The next film, Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes will be a prequel directed by Francis Lawrence who was in charge of Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part One and Mockingjay Part Two. The film has been scheduled for a release date of 17th November, 2023.
Lionsgate announced the film’s release date during its CinemaCon presentation and given the money that the franchise has made so far, you can see why it’s keen to give fans another opportunity to revisit the world of Panem. The movie will be based on the prequel novel, Hunger Games: Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes which was released in 2020.
That story serves as grounding to the Hunger Games trilogy, and follows the fortunes of a young President Snow, (played by Donald Sutherland in the original trilogy) ‘years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow sees a chance for a change in fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor to Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.’
With seven years passing since the release of the last film, it will be interesting to see how this one fares. It certainly seems like enough time to allow anticipation to build for a return to the series. We’ll keep you updated as we hear more on this one.
