After scoring a hit with last year’s Pirates, Reggie Yates is heading back behind the camera to tell a very different kind of story in Poles Apart.
If you haven’t had the pleasure, Reggie Yates directorial debut Pirates was released last year and did good business despite the pandemic. It’s a delightful ode to friendship and male bonding set on New Years Eve 1999, and we put it on the cover of our magazine too (although that issue has long sold out). Giving opportunities to a cast of unknown young actors who all give terrific performances, Pirates was a shot in the arm to the British film industry at a time when not too many films were getting a full cinema release.
Following Pirates, Yates is wasting no time in getting back behind the camera. He will write and direct Poles Apart, which is inspired by the true story of Dwayne Fields, the first Black Briton to trek over four hundred miles to the North Pole. Fields went on to co-found a charity that takes disadvantaged young people on life-changing expeditions.
