Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds are all set to return for Red Notice 2 and Red Notice 3, films Netflix wants to make back to back.
The golden rule of Netflix is when the streaming giant has a hit, it wants another one. It spent nearly $200m on the perfectly bland star-studded heist adventure
Red Notice, and was rewarded with record viewing figures (at least until
Don’t Look Up came along).
It helped that Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds headlined the movie, and the trio will be on the receiving end of another sizeable Netflix cheque. That’s because it’s ordering a pair of sequels to the film, that it wants to be shot back to back.
The plan would be for filming to begin in early 2023 on the pair of projects. Rawson Marshall Thurber, who wrote and directed the first movie, is also coming back for the new films. All of the four names mentioned earned an eight-figure salary for the first movie. We can’t imagine they’re in line for a paycut on the next two films.
The earliest we’d imagine we’d see the first of these is 2024. It follows Netflix ordering two
Knives Out sequels at the same time, incidentally, although those aren’t expected to shoot back to back.
More as we hear it. Hopefully, we’ll get action sequences that don’t chop all over the place this time, if the film gets to shoot in non-Covid conditions.
