The production company BRON is planning to return to its ‘core business’ as a creative producer, rather than financier.
BRON, the production company that has been behind a couple of the biggest blockbusters to hit cinemas in recent years, has announced that it is stepping away from funding tentpole films to instead focus on its work as a creative production company. The Canadian studio has been involved in films like
Joker,
House Of Gucci, and
Licorice Pizza at a production and/or financing level and some of the projects it has been part of have performed commercially well.
As well as co-financing projects through deals with Warner Bros and MGM, BRON has also backed productions such as
Ghostbusters: Afterlife, as well as
Bombshell and more arthouse-inclined projects such as Neon’s
Assassination Nation, Bleecker Street’s
Leave No Trace, not to mention A24’s
The Green Knight.
However, as we’ve also seen today with Plan B
reportedly going up for sale, the space for independent production companies to operate whilst such huge amounts of cash are going into film production, can leave companies in vulnerable positions. BRON has seemingly elected to play for smaller stakes instead. Reports that the company is instead looking to invest in NFTs and Metaverse technology are perhaps less welcome, but only time will tell if BRON’s new strategy pays off.
