With a runtime of 31,129 minutes, you can now get Prisoner Cell Block H on 175 DVDs from Australia. More here.
A news announcement from Australia has just caught our eye, concerning the long-running Australian soap Prisoner Cell Block H. Known as Prisoner in its home country of Australia, the show ran for eight years in all following its debut in 1975. In total, 692 episodes of it were screened. Incredibly, those 692 episodes now form part of a brand new boxset that runs to 175 DVDs.
175 discs.
Incredibly, it actually runs four discs shorter than a 2007 release of the show, but must have missed that.
The new Prisoner: The Complete Series limited edition set is being published by Via Vision in Australia so anyone in the UK who wants a copy is going to have to go the import route. The shipping costs to get the set over to the UK are bound to be entirely reasonable.
The set also comes in a hardbox, and features a sound chip and booklet. The sound chip apparently recreated the sound of the cell doors slamming shut from the show, so if you don’t already have that as your mobile phone ringtone, this is your moment. The booklet is 48 pages, which when you’ve got 175 discs isn’t even one page to three discs. Tsk, the cheapskates.
The set can be found and ordered here.
The set is out on 6th November 2024, and has a running time of 31,129 minutes. Should fill a few Friday nights. Youād be cheesed off if you got through it and discovered, say, that disc 112 didnāt work though.
The only logical thing now is for the BBC to follow suit and finally give us the complete boxset of EastEnders that the public has been crying out for. With a bit of luck, you’ll only need one off-site storage container to house it in. We’ll keep our ear to the ground for the inevitable announcement.
