Pixar’s next film to skip cinemas altogether (again)

Pixar’s big summer release – Luca – will not be seeing the inside of a cinema in the UK or US, instead heading straight to Disney+. Following the release of its Oscar-nominated Soul directly onto Disney+ last Christmas, the next Pixar movie will also be skipping cinemas altogether. Furthermore, it’ll be heading to the Disney+ service without the need for a Premier Access charge. The movie is Luca, and in this case cinemas in the UK are likely to be open when it’s released on June 18th. A theatrical release for the movie is being reserved for territories where Disney+ isn’t in operation. A trailer for the movie landed a few weeks ago, giving a flavour of just what’s in store. Here’s what it looks like, and you’ll find the synopsis for the movie underneath… And the synopsis reads as follows… Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, Disney and Pixar’s original feature film “Luca” is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface. Directed by Academy Award® nominee Enrico Casarosa (“La Luna”) and produced by Andrea Warren (“Lava,” “Cars 3”). The film will be with us on June 18th.
