A few surprising details have also emerged regarding the future of the DC Extended Universe – the DCEU – in a new report.
Fans have been worried about the fate of other DCEU productions since Warner Bros abruptly pulled the plug on
Batgirl the other week, despite the film being nearly finished and of a decent quality, according to reports.
The Hollywood Reporter has now followed-up that story with a report that suggests that all of the other DCEU films that are currently in production are deemed to be ‘safe’. Most notably, that means that the currently-shooting
Blue Beetle, starring
Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña will not be cancelled. Fears arose for the future of that project considering that its status was lifted from a HBO Max production to a theatrical release. HBO Max movies are of course the ones that the newly-minted Warner Bros/Discovery company are looking to stop releasing.
That means that unsurprisingly, the planned
Joker sequel, Todd Phillips’
Joker: Folie a Deux is safe, along with several unnamed James Gunn projects. However, along with this news, comes a couple of surprising nuggets. Firstly, the report suggests that Ezra Miller was quietly taking part in reshoots for
The Flash this summer, prior to his recent arrest, something that may surprise fans who may have suspected Warner Bros were looking to remove him from the film.
Secondly, the report also suggests that DCEU boss, Walter Hamada was so upset by the changes to the upcoming slate that he wanted to resign and likely will leave once he he has overseen the release of the films that he has shepherded through the system. That of course will leave the DCEU top spot open for a Kevin Feige-like figure to come in, with new Warner Bros leader David Zaslav having publicly announced that he wants to directly ape Feige’s cinematic success with the Marvel brand.
So there you have it, more interesting news and we’ll update you on this ongoing saga as we hear more. You can catch the full piece at
