Pixarās Onward tops the UK box office chart, but itās films such as Grease, Fight Club and The Terminator that are filling out the first top ten back.
Pixar’s delightful movie
Onward was the first film to claim top of the UK box office in over three months, as a few sites cautiously opened their doors over the past weekend. In England, cinemas were allowed to open again as of last Saturday, but around the country just 50 took up this offer. Most major multiplexes are waiting it out until the end of the month at least.
Onward brought in just over £21,000 over the weekend, and furthermore
Trolls World Tour finally made its UK cinema bow too, earning just shy of £20,000 itself.
Most of the top ten at the box office though was made up of re-releases of older films, that cinemas opted to fill their screens with this past weekend. Those included
The Greatest Showman,
Grease,
Fight Club and
The Terminator.
More cinemas will gradually be opening their doors over the next week or two, but it’s going to be a long time we suspect before we see a film have a £1m weekend at the UK box office again…
