Hans Zimmer has been chatting about why he took the James Bond 007 scoring job on very late in the day for the movie.
Back when the new James Bond film
No Time To Die, was set to be released in April, it raised a few eyebrows when Hans Zimmer was drafted in to do the score for the movie. That’s no slight on Zimmer of course, rather that he was brought in very late in the day. Dan Romer had been scoring the film, but at the start of January it was revealed that he had left the film over creative differences. Zimmer was drafted in.
In a new interview, Zimmer has been chatting about why he took the job on in a new interview with Variety. It turned out it was a phone call with guitarist Johnny Marr was pivotal.
Zimmer described how he rang Marr and said “I have two questions to ask you. First question is, what’s the only guitar part worth playing in a movie?”
Marr replied that it was “the Bond part”, and Zimmer asked him “second question: Do you think I should do the movie and would you play the guitar part?” So that sort of settled that. Johnny was right. He wanted to bring guitar back into the score. We were just embracing our inner John Barry”, Zimmer said.
Zimmer also worked with Billie Eilish and Finneas Eilish on the already-released song, but we’ll get to hear the score – finally – when the movie arrives this coming November.
