The latest glimpse of the Resident Evil movie shows how the direct influence of the beloved game series will run through the film.
The release of Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City isn’t too far away now, with the film set to arrive in cinemas here in the UK on December 4th. Johannes Roberts, the director of the upcoming adaptation of the popular Resident Evil survival horror video game series has chatted in the past about the casting process for his inbound film, focusing on just how faithful you need to be when making a game to movie adaptation.
Whilst reception to what we’ve seen of the film so far has been positive, some fans have reacted tepidly to some of the film’s casting, questioning the lack of likeness to their video game counterparts. Roberts doesn’t seem fazed by this, stating: “I think as I said before one of the traps of falling into game adaptations is to make it feel like a giant cosplay version of the game.”
However, whilst Roberts seemed adamant that his adaptation wouldn’t be a carbon copy of the game, Sony is keen to stress to fans that this movie will capture much of the beloved survival horror series. As such, it’s released a new featurette which offers side-by-side comparisons of the film and the games, to show how costumes and sets are inspired directly by the source material.

The film stars stars Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia as Leon S Kennedy, Neal McDonough as William Birkin, and Lily Gao as Ada Wong.
