A new project at Paramount is set to bring a bit of H G Wells to the big screen again – but there’s a shroud of mystery to it.
An interesting new project has been announced by Paramount, although it still seems to be in the early stages of development and as such, information is somewhat thin on the ground.
Deadline is reporting that the studio is working on a film that will ‘be a very loose adaptation stemming from the “mythology” that surrounds one of the writer’s most iconic titles’. That writer being H G Wells.
Whilst Wells’ War of the Worlds is the obvious choice that springs to mind, the acclaimed science fiction author also published a few other classic titles which could easily qualify as ‘iconic’, including The Time Machine, The Island of Doctor Moreau and The Invisible Man.
The studio is keeping any kind of story details to themselves for now, although it has been revealed that the project is being penned by Laura Gillis, an up and coming writer. T S Nowlin, who co-wrote The Adam Project and Pacific Rim: Uprising has also contributed to the story.
No director has been named as of yet, although we do know that the project will be produced through the studio’s Paramount Players imprint. The sub-division of Paramount was designed to encourage ‘contemporary’ projects following a string of filmmakers reportedly finding the studio discouraging to work with, so in theory, this project should possess a greater degree of creator control, which augers well.
