The brand new Candyman film is nearly here, and a bit of fresh footage has been released from the upcoming movie.
The āreimaginingā of the Candyman horror franchise is almost with us. After being delayed, Nia DaCostaās updated version of the fondly-remembered 1990s horror series will be with us on August 27th, barring any further postponements. Universal certainly seems to be sticking with this date with the marketing campaign in full swing; weāve seen an interesting-looking trailer for the film, and now we can watch another clip, plus view an insightful featurette.
The clip shows us a few foolhardy teenagers daring to say the Candymanās name into a bathroom mirror, practically a teenage rite of passage if you were a horror fan in the 1990s; you can see how it turns out by watching the sequence below:
Equally interesting is the featurette, which focuses on behind the scenes action and sees DaCosta and producer Jordan Peele, discuss the film and the legend of the Candyman, along with some contributions from the cast. Itās definitely worth checking ahead of the filmās August 27th release.
Weāll leave you with the filmās official synopsisā¦
āFor as long as the residents can remember, the housing projects of Chicagoās Cabrini Green neighborhood were terrorized by the word-of-mouth ghost story about the supernatural killer Daniel Robitaille, aka the Candyman, easily summoned by those daring to repeat his name five times into a mirror. In the present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, a visual artist named Anthony McCoy and his girlfriend, an art gallery director named Brianna Cartwright, moved into a luxurious loft condo in Cabrini, now gentrified beyond recognition and inhabited by the upwardly mobile millennials. With Anthonyās painting career on the brink of stalling, a chance encounter with a Cabrini Green old-timer exposes Anthony to the tragically horrific nature of the true story behind the Candyman.ā
