A new biopic is set to chart the psychological travails of creating one of fiction’s most haunting monsters: Frankenstein.
The story of the creation of Frankenstein, (the novel, not the tortured literary hero, nor his fiendish, monstrous creation) is almost as broodingly Gothic as the iconic tale itself. Not only is the book, now over 200 years old, considered to be the world’s first work of science fiction, its creation is also the stuff of legend. After all, its author, Mary Shelley, first conceived the idea whilst conjuring up ghost stories with companions (and literary legends) Lord Byron and her husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley.
It is this iconic process that an upcoming film looks set to chart, with an early, brief synopsis for the project describing it as so: ‘Terrified of giving voice to the darkness of her subconscious mind, Mary Shelley locks into a dangerous battle with her own ‘inner monster’ as she struggles to write her seminal science fiction novel, Frankenstein’.
The film will be titled Mary’s Monster and looks to delve further into the psychology of Shelley. Furthermore, the creatives behind this one, production companies, Fulwell 73 and Rose Pictures, means it looks like being a squarely indie production.
Farren Blackburn, who has previously helmed episodes of A Discovery of Witches, is on board to direct. We’ll let you know more regarding this one was we hear it.
