As the service receives a surge in demand, Netflix for around an hour buckles under the strain.
It won’t be much of a surprise to reveal that over the past week, audience numbers for streaming giant Netflix are said to have soared. And whilst the service has kept up on the whole with the increased demands upon it, there was the first sign of a wobble overnight.
Late on Wednesday, the service went down for some users in the US and Europe. A chunk of users were reporting that they were getting no connection to Netflix, and the error message NSES-500 was popping up.
Turns out that was a Netflix problem, and not a user issue. In a statement issued to Variety, the streaming firm admitted that “Some of our members in the U.S. and Europe were unable to use Netflix via our website for around an hour this morning”. It added that “The issue is now fixed and we’re sorry for the inconvenience”.
Things are back up and running now, but the challenge will clearly be to keep up with the demand whilst the majority of us around the world are in some form of lockdown.
