Netflix has released a first look at animated film My Father’s Dragon, which features an all-star voice cast including Jacob Tremblay and Ian McShane.
Netflix’s
My Father’s Dragon now has a first look image. Directed by Cartoon Saloon co-founder Nora Twomey, the animated film is inspired by a children’s book by Rupert Stiles Gannett. It follows Elmer, who struggles to cope with moving to the city with his mother. He runs away in search of Wild Island and a young dragon in need of rescuing, and his adventures introduce him to ferocious beasts, a mysterious island, and a new friendship.
The film a huge voice cast filled with stars, including Jacob Tremblay,
Stranger Things’ Gaten Matarazzo, Golshifteh Farahani (who was in Ridley Scott’s
Body Of Lies), and Dianne Wiest. Also among the cast are Rita Moreno, Chris O’Dowd, Judy Greer, Alan Cumming, Whoopi Goldberg, and Ian McShane. It sounds like quite the ensemble.
Cartoon Saloon is a five-time Oscar nominated animation studio, and Twomey herself has been nominated in the Best Animated Feature category for
The Breadwinner. Joining her to write the screenplay for
My Father’s Dragon is Meg LeFauve, who penned Pixar’s
Inside Out.
The animated movie is part of a growing slate of animated films at Netflix, which includes the already released
The Mitchell’s Vs The Machines, Klaus, and Richard Linklater’s
10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood. Also currently in the works are Henry Selick-helmed feature
Wendell & Wild, Guillermo del Toro’s
Pinocchio, and
Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget.
We’ll bring you more news on
My Father’s Dragon as we hear it.
