Masters Of The Universe has been acquired by Netflix,
The Hollywood Reporter reveals. The film was originally in development at Sony. The newest live-action iteration of Prince Adam/He-Man will reportedly be played by
West Side Story actor Kyle Allen.
The character of He-Man became a pop culture phenomenon during the 1980s, as what started as a franchise of action figures and toys became a beloved animated series. It also spawned the 1987 live-action film with Dolph Lundgren in the starring role. In the series, He-Man is really Prince Adam, who wields the power granted to him by the magical Castle Grayskull to protect his friends and the land from the evil Skeletor.
Masters Of The Universe is looking to start filming this summer, and will be directed by the Nee Brothers. The duo also helmed the upcoming comedy
The Lost City starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, and Daniel Radcliffe. David Callaham (who wrote
Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings) penned the screenplay.
When the project was in development at Sony, Noah Centineo was rumoured to be playing He-Man. It has not been revealed why the company didnāt retain the worldwide rights, but it will retain the streaming and theatrical rights to the film in China, where Netflix doesnāt operate.
Masters Of The Universe will be the third adaptation of its kind at Netflix, so you could say itās in safe hands (though Kevin Smithās
Revelation series proved divisive).
Masters Of The Universe: Revelation is a two-part legacy sequel that stars the voice talents of Mark Hamill, Lena Headey, Chris Wood, and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Another series ā
He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe ā is a 3D-animated series that will soon be in its second season.
