Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut has become of the first big acquisitions of Toronto International Film Festival.
Woman Of The Hour, a period thriller that explores a strange-yet-true story from the 1970s has been purchased by Netflix for $11m.
The film follows ‘Cheryl Bradshaw, a bachelorette candidate on a hit ’70s TV matchmaking show who picks the funny and handsome Bachelor Number One, Rodney Alcala. But Bradshaw’s fairy-tale date takes a terrifying turn when the bachelor drops his charming façade to reveal the truth: Alcala is in fact a psychopathic serial killer.’
The script, which has been penned by Ian McDonald, made it onto the Black List, meaning it was voted as one of the best unproduced scripts floating around Hollywood. Kendrick will also produce and star as Bradshaw. It certainly seems like a role that Kendrick would excel in given her knack for playing ordinary characters who excel at being practical in extraordinary situations.
