Netflix is boasting a surge in subscriber numbers, and is withdrawing its £10.99 a month basic price plan to celebrate.
It’s been a pretty good week for Netflix, all things considered. Notwithstanding the fact that half of Hollywood is on strike and it can’t get much made,
its strategy of cracking down on password sharing has led to an extra 5.9 million subscribers worldwide. Its cash flow is up too, and not that many people have cancelled as a result of the password crackdown it’s been undertaking.
Netflix is celebrating the news in the time honoured fashioned by well, hiding some other news. It’s withdrawing the cheapest ad-free subscription package it has from UK sale, meaning the cheapest ad-free plan it now offers is the £15.99 premium monthly option.
The cheapest package remains at £4.99 a month, but that comes with adverts as part of the deal. Furthermore, you’re not allowed to download material to your phone or tablet as part of it.
Existing Basic subscribers will be able to keep things as they are. It’s just it’s not longer being offered to new customers of Netflix. The change is effective now.
