The long-mooted Beverly Hills Cop 4 finds a new home at Netflix.
Paramount has been, of the major studios, about the most active partner for streaming giant Netflix thus far. As we detailed here, it sold a bunch of its films to the firm. And now? Netflix is joining it in bringing the long-mooted Beverly Hills Cop 4 to the screen.
The film has come close to happening several times, most notably with Brett Ratner for a long time posited as director (although heās also long off the project). But with Murphy set to move towards stand-up from film in the next year, this may be its last chance to happen. Thus, a deal has been inked to mitigate the risk, where Netflix comes in as partners on the movie.
This may mean that the film bypasses cinemas altogether as a consequence, although there’s some way to go before that decision has to be made. The movie currently has no script or director in place.
Jerry Bruckheimer though will be back to produce, and it may yet go to the top of Murphy’s docket once he’s wrapped up work on another belated sequel, Coming 2 America.
