Netflix announces release date for Wes Anderson’s Henry Sugar, and others

We now know when Wes Anderson’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar is coming to Netflix – but plenty of questions remain unanswered.  Netflix has announced its fall movie schedule, and with that comes the release date for The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar, Wes Anderson’s take on the Roald Dahl short story. The film (if it can even be called a film) will be available to stream from October 13th. However, precious little else has been revealed apart from the running time, which is 39 minutes. Whilst that certainly doesn’t qualify as ‘feature-length’, we’ve previously heard from Rupert Friend (who is one of the project’s actors) that Anderson has also adapted at least two other Dahl tales from the same short story collection, those being The Ratcatcher and The Swan. As of right now, it’s unclear if Netflix are going to release all of the tales at once, thus allowing viewers to watch the whole lot as an anthology, which would definitely ramp the running time back up into movie status. It’s also unclear if Anderson’s project is going to get any kind of cinema release. Whilst on one hand, Anderson certainly qualifies for the kind of prestige auteur status that Netflix grants theatrical releases to (see Martin Scorsese and Rian Johnson) but on the other, we’re not sure just how ‘filmic’ Henry Sugar is going to be, considering that Anderson has compared it to BBC’s Play For Today in the past. The full schedule also reveals that David Fincher’s The Killer is coming on November 10th, whilst Leave The World Behind, a thriller headlined by Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali, is coming December 8th. Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget will be released on December 15th whilst five days later, Bradley Cooper’s Maestro will launch on December 20th. Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon lands on December 22nd.
