The British filmmaker behind Dog Soldiers and The Descent, Neil Marshall, will soon be scaring us witless once more, it has been revealed.
Neil Marshall, the director of Dog Soldiers and The Descent, has returned to the horror genre with The Lair, based on a screenplay he’s co-written.
As if somehow surviving a viewing of The Descent wasn’t scary enough, Marshall is once again taking us underground, presumably into darkness and peril once more. The film has been picked up by RLJE films and its streaming platform, Shudder. As such, the current plan is to give the movie a theatrical release this October followed by a release on the streaming platform early next year.
The film itself is about an RAF pilot who’s downed, and manages to escape from a bunker full of biological mutant weapons in Afghanistan – only to bring something with them when they return back to an American army base. If Marshall can unite the horror-inflected military and subterranean elements of Dog Soldiers and The Descent, his two most beloved films, this project could really be quite something.
The Reckoning’s Charlotte Kirk has co-written the project and she’ll star in it too. Jonathan Howard (Thor: The Dark World) and Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) also feature. We’ll bring you more on this enticing project, including a trailer, just as soon as it arrives.
