No pesky actors’ strike will get in the way of Ridley Scott’s upcoming historical epic, starring Joaquin Phoenix, as a Napoleon trailer charges into view…
Back in September we covered a report in Variety that Ridley Scott’s latest historical epic Napoleon would be shifting its release date to next year, following in the footsteps of November’s other huge release, Dune: Part II. That certainly seemed like the plan for the film, with star Joaquin Phoenix unable to promote the film due to the ongoing strike action amongst actors. However, September turned into October and no announcement came. Although the actors’ strike is still ongoing, it seems that Apple and Sony are pressing ahead regardless given that the main trailer for the film has been revealed today ahead of its release next month. Ridley Scott’s latest film is set to depict Napoleon’s swift rise to power. A military commander, his ruthlessness quickly gained him the title of Emperor. Joaquin Phoenix promises to be impressive in the title role, as does Vanessa Kirby, who plays his wife Josephine. Scott directs from a script penned by David Scarpa.
Made by Apple, the film will be released in UK cinemas on 24th November before heading to Apple TV+ at an undisclosed date. For the moment, here’s the brand new trailer, which has just been launched…

The movie’s synopsis states that Napoleon’s rise will be viewed “through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine.”
Much like Scott’s last historical epic, The Last Duel, the trailer for Napoleon promises political intrigue, troubled relationships and exciting combat.
