My Lady Jane, a British period drama, has been cancelled after just one season at Prime Video. More on the news below.
Another promising series has met its end. Prime Video has cancelled its new British fantasy drama after just one season, as detailed here by The Hollywood Reporter.
The series reimagined the life of Lady Jane Grey, portrayed by Emily Bader in the series. In My Lady Jane’s universe, humans coexist with shapeshifters, who have been driven outside of society by the humans. Jane sympathises with the so-called Ethians, but as she rises to power, she becomes a threat to the humans.
The first ā and as of now, the only ā season garnered strongly positive reviews from critics. My Lady Jane currently holds a 94% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and a very respectable 81% audience score, but that wasn’t enough to warrant another season at Prime Video.
The disappointing news comes only a couple of weeks after we learned that Disney+ opted not to renew Renegade Nell for season 2. Other TV shows recently cancelled are Outer Range and Halo. Meanwhile, Netflix has gone against the current ā and certainly of its own reputation as a serial canceller ā by renewing Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen for season 2.
Prime Video is likely focusing on its bigger TV shows, such as the final season of The Boys, the upcoming season 2 of The Rings Of Power and Fallout.
