The new trailer expands on what the teaser trailer showed us, revealing that Moana now has a little sister! Little Simea is worried that her sister and Motunui’s chief and wayfinder won’t make it back from her latest adventure.
Moana heads off to try and connect all the islands, but is faced with a pretty serious storm as well as the Kakamora, the coconutty sea pirates we love and are a little scared of. And of course, Dwayne Johnson’s demigod Maui is back, assisting Moana on her journey.
“Stay tuned, we’re only getting started,” Auli’i Cravalho, the voice of Moana, told the crowd at D23 as picked up by Deadline. Could this mean there’s more Moana in our future?
The sequel’s events take place three years after the first film and Cravalho noted that Moana has done a lot of growing up in the years in between the two films.
“The film is so reflective of its time now that we’re in a moment of true womanhood and strength and what it means to journey on in your own power,” the actress said before adding that Moana 2 “allowed me to tap into parts of myself.”
Moana 2 is scheduled to hit cinemas 27th November.
