Michael Mann’s Ferrari, that covers a year in the life of Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari, will close the New York Film Festival.
Adam Driver stars as Ferrari, with Penelope Cruz playing his wife, Laura. Mann’s movie is set in 1957, a tumultuous year for Ferrari on multiple fronts. It’s been announced that the film will close this year’s New York Film Festival on 13th October.
The film sees Enzo’s marriage begin to break down because of his unfaithfulness and the death of his young son. His company is also in a state of change. Financial pressures mean he has to consider branching out into making automobiles – something he was strongly against as he only wanted to make race cars.
1957 also sees Ferrari having to prepare for the open-road endurance race Mille Miglia.
Starring alongside Driver and Cruz are Shailene Woodley, Gabriel Leone, Patrick Dempsey and Jack O’Connell.
Before its New York Film Festival screening, the movie will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. It gets a wide theatrical release in the US on 25th December. Sky holds the UK distribution rights, so we can expect Ferrari to release via Sky Cinema and the NOW streaming service. However, it doesn’t currently have a UK release date.
