The first trailer has arrived for the Michael Mann’s Enzo Ferrari biopic, aptly named Ferrari, and it is a welcome one.
That’s not only because this is a project that has been decades in the making, but also because it’s also almost completely free of dialogue, allowing you to simply feel the film’s tone rather than expose you to plot or sequences that might hamper your enjoyment of the film. Sure, another trailer will emerge at some point which probably does that but there’s something really refreshing about being able to get hyped for a film simply through gorgeous sound and visuals, so hats off to everybody behind this first look at the film.
It was revealed back in February that Sky had picked up the distribution rights for Ferrari here in the UK, Michael Mann’s first film in eight years. 2015’s Blackhat was the director’s last film and his return to filmmaking is of course an exciting prospect given that he has helmed a string of classic films such as Heat, The Last of the Mohicans and Collateral.
Sky’s distribution deal will see the film get a cinema release on the 26th December before the Ferrari biopic changes lanes to the broadcaster’s service at some point in 2024. Over in the US, the film has been picked up for distribution by Neon. Adam Driver will play Enzo Ferrari in the film whilst Penélope Cruz will play his wife, Laura Ferrari. Shailene Woodley, Patrick Dempsey, Jack O’Connell, Peter Collins, Sarah Gadon and Gabriel Leone all feature too. Here’s the film’s synopsis, along with that trailer:
During the summer of 1957, ex-racecar driver, Enzo Ferrari, is in crisis. Bankruptcy stalks the company he and his wife, Laura, built from nothing ten years earlier. Their tempestuous marriage struggles with the mourning for one son and the acknowledgement of another. Attempting to secure their survival he rolls the dice on one race – 1,000 miles across Italy, the iconic Mille Miglia.
