Michael B Jordan suggests that the āCreed universeā will be expanding on the eve of the third filmās release.
Here in the UK, weāre just a few days away from the general release of
Creed III. Despite being the third entry in the
Creed series, the film marks a new dawn in several ways: itās the first film in the long-running
Rocky/Creed series to not feature Sylvester Stalloneās Rocky Balboa. The project also marks Michael B Jordanās elevation to the directorās chair, with the actor charting the same path from star to helmer as Stallone once did before him.
Stallone used his star power in the
Rocky franchise to gain some experience as a director and Jordan has followed suit, suggesting at
Creed III's Hollywood premiere that there will be more films following, perhaps even one of the spin-offs weāve seen mooted. Among the usual thanks and salutations, Jordan mentioned that ābuilding the
Creed universe is something that I’m really excited about,ā leading to no shortage of speculation about where the franchise might go next.
Whilst only the broadest of hints, Jordanās comments lead us back to the
Drago spin-off film that was announced last summer. Little has been heard of the project since, and almost immediately after the filmās announcement, there was something of a public walk-back from Drago Sr himself, Dolph Lundgren when he realised that Stallone wasnāt involved.
Following an angry online outburst from Stallone regarding the announcement of
Drago, Lundgren took to social media to clarify his āinvolvementā, stating: āJust to set the record straight regarding a possible Drago spin-off, there’s no approved script, no deals in place, no director, and I was personally under the impression that my friend Sly Stallone was involved as a producer or even as an actor.ā
Itās been pretty quiet on the
Drago front since, so whether Jordan is referring to that project or perhaps another
Creed sequel remains to be seen. Either way, weāre simply looking forwards to seeing Adonis Creed on the big screen for his upcoming third outing. Hopefully that film will live up to the quality of the seriesā previous entries and the future will take care of itself. The opening bell will ring for
Creed III this Friday where you can catch the film in cinemas.
