The in-demand new Night Of The Living Dead movie featuring a hot upcoming director has found a buyer and will come to cinemas, it has been revealed.
Whilst the American Film Market was a little light on sales this year, the prevailing narrative was that virtual attendance and volatile economic conditions would result in plenty of films getting picked up in the weeks aftermath of the event, as bidders exercised just that extra bit of caution.
It looks like that’s true for Nikyatu Jusu’s planned
Night Of The Living Dead sequel which was present at the AFM and has now been seen worldwide rights to the project get snapped up by the Amazon-owned MGM.
Nikyatu Jusu and LaToya Morgan are set to direct and write the new project respectively, with Romero’s Sanibel Films involved too. Romero’s wife, Christine, will be representing the late filmmaker and will have input, with Vertigo and Westbrook Studios also involved.
Village Roadshow and FilmNation co-represented the film at the American Film Market and with MGM having triumphed in what was reportedly a pretty competitive bidding process, the project’s producers were able to secure a theatrical release guarantee for the film.
Whilst no casting has yet been announced, that creative team of Jusu and Morgan is already compelling: Morgan has worked on
The Walking Dead, whilst Jusu’s
Nanny won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize earlier this year and was also backed by Amazon. Jusu is really making waves in the world of horror: she’s also working with none other than Jordan Peele to bring a vampire movie,
Suicide By Sunlight, to life.
