Starved Acre is a new horror film bringing together Saint Maud star Morfydd Clark and the Gallifreyan Matt Smith.
One-time TARDIS dweller Matt Smith and Saint Maud breakout star (and previous Film Stories cover star) Morfydd Clark are coming together for a brand new British supernatural horror movie. It’s called Starve Acre and is a big screen take on the novel of the same name from Andrew Michael Hurley.
It’s being adapted for the screen by Daniel Kokotajlo, who is also going to direct the movie too. It’s his second feature as helmer, following the 2017 film Apostasy.
Starve Acre is a 1970s-set story, that’s been brought to life via funding from the BBC and the BFI. That and Access Entertainment and House Productions. Distribution is going to be sold at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival.
The synopsis of the book reads as follows…
The worst thing possible has happened. Richard and Juliette Willoughby’s son, Ewan, has died suddenly at the age of five. Starve Acre, their house by the moors, was to be full of life, but is now a haunted place.
Juliette, convinced Ewan still lives there in some form, seeks the help of the Beacons, a seemingly benevolent group of occultists. Richard, to try and keep the boy out of his mind, has turned his attention to the field opposite the house, where he patiently digs the barren dirt in search of a legendary oak tree.
Starve Acre is a devastating new novel by the author of the prize-winning bestseller The Loney. It is a novel about the way in which grief splits the world in two and how, in searching for hope, we can so easily unearth horror.
