M Night Shyamalan’s latest thriller Trap is almost here – and the full trailer for it has just been released. Take a look…
August will see the return of M Night Shyamalan to cinemas with Trap, his latest film that arrives a quarter of a century after the filmmaker gave the world one of the greatest thrillers of modern-ish times in the form of 1999’s The Sixth Sense. More recently, the filmmaker released Knock At The Cabin which received mixed reviews, although for this writer’s money it saw Shyamalan at close to his best again.
While Shyamalan (or any filmmaker for that fact) could spend their whole career vying to achieve another bravura twist ending to match the one that stunned audiences in The Sixth Sense, 2023’s Knock At The Cabin really excelled at the other important bit of a thriller – the long, drawn out tension that becomes increasingly unbearable as the story progresses.
As such, excitement is high for Shyamalan’s next film, not least because it features the talents of Josh Hartnett up front and centre as ‘a serial killer who takes his teenage daughter to see Lady Raven in concert, only to find out the police are onto him and the whole thing is an elaborate plan to catch him.’
Joining Hartnett in the film’s cast are Ariel Donoghue, Hayley Mills and Allison Pill while Shyamalan’s daughter Saleika Shyamalan will play Lady Raven, making her acting debut. Saleika shouldn’t be confused with M Night’s other daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan who made her own her directorial debut this summer with The Watchers.
Trap will be released in UK cinemas on 9th August and Warner Bros has released a second trailer to promote the film’s launch.
As this is an M Night Shyamalan film, this is one trailer where you don’t have to worry about being shown too much. The director is notoriously secretive about protecting the trademark twists and turns in his films, so go ahead and check out a glimpse of Josh Hartnett turning to the dark side ahead of the film’s release in just a few weeks.
