The long-mooted Luther movie looks like it’s now become a Netflix project, with filming set to begin in September.
The big screen debut of Idris Elba’s detective Luther, created by Neil Cross, might not be heading to the big screen after all. The film version has been teased for some time now, and Elba himself confirmed that the film was set to go into production this autumn. Now comes a report that suggests the ultimate destination of the movie project isn’t the cinema, but Netflix.
The chequebook/bank transfer of the streaming giant has apparently snapped up the project, and will presumably fund a more expansive production than the BBC can ordinarily afford to stump up.
September marks the tentative start date for filming, and that suggests we might finally get to see the Luther film for the end of 2023. Don’t hold us to it, though…
