Updates continue to trickle in for the new The Naked Gun film, now suggesting the project might finally shoot this year.
Paramount Pictures is seemingly moving forwards with a reboot of The Naked Gun, with the film appearing to be a legacy sequel of sorts. Liam Neeson is set to play the son of Detective Frank Drebin, rather than attempting to fill the role made famous by Leslie Nielsen in the classic series of cop show spoofs.
Last we heard, talks with Neeson were still ongoing but weād imagine that has now been resolved and the actor himself seems to consider himself part of the project. He recently told Collider, āyes, weāre waiting on a script. Yeah, weāre hoping itāll happen this year, maybe in the summertime.ā
The film will be directed by Lonely Island‘s Akiva Shchaffer and written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who last penned the charming Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.
Various versions of the sequel have been floating around since 2009 and now it looks like things are finally moving ahead, perhaps with an eye on a 2024 release. As soon as any details are confirmed, weāll let you know.
