Donāt expect an official announcement just yet, but a few key names have bubbled to the surface for the next Superman.
We heard the other week that James Gunn got his script for
Superman: Legacy written just before the WGA ordered its writers to down tools ahead of what will likely be a long strike action. With a script in place, pre-production on the project can press ahead and that means casting. As the first film in James Gunnās new DC Universe, the actor playing Superman could well be the cornerstone for everything that follows, so the casting for this one is crucial.
A few rumoured names have cropped up, with several outlets reporting on the process.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter, David Corenswet is in the lead to play the Man of Steel and Clark Kent, his mild-mannered alter-ego. Whilst not quite an unknown, Corensweet hasnāt yet took the lead in any feature films, with his most prominent movie role being a supporting performance in Ti Westās
Pearl which released this year in the UK.
Whilst it looks like Gunn is set to follow the tradition of casting low-profile actors for the Superman role, there are some more recognisable names said to be in the mix for the filmās other parts. Nicholas Hoult is said to be the frontrunner to play Lex Luthor whilst
Sex Educationās Emma Mackey,
Bridgerton actress Phoebe Dynevor and
Ready Or Not's Samara Weaving are reportedly all in the mix to play Lois Lane.
Whether these names prove to be accurate remains to be seen but the outlet claims that Corenswet is headed to screen and costume tests next. Should they go well, we may have an announcement sometime this summer. Weāll let you know more as we hear it.
