It’s about time: Kevin Costner will direct again for the first time in nearly 20 years, with filming on the western Horizon set for later this year.
He’s not directed a film since 2003’s superb Open Range, but we now learn that Kevin Costner is gearing up to shoot a brand new western this summer. He’s going to be shooting a film called Horizon, described as a passion project for the Oscar-winning helmer. As with Open Range, it’s going to be independently funded, with his Territory Pictures production company financing the project.
The film will cover 15 years both before and after the American civil war, telling the stories of the people who lived on the land and those who came to try and settle on it. No casting for the movie has thus far been announced, just that it will start shooting in Utah in the US on August 29th. That points towards a 2023 release date.
Costner is fitting the movie around his schedule for the hugely successful TV show Yellowstone. Horizon will mark his fourth directorial outing, following Dances With Wolves, The Postman and the aforementioned Open Range.
