Kenneth Branagh’s Poirot is set to get a third film

Following Murder On The Orient Express and Death On The Nile, Kenneth Branagh’s Poirot is set to get a third outing: more here. Currently playing in cinemas before presumably heading to Disney+ at reasonable speed is Kenneth Branagh’s second big screen adaptation of an Agatha Christie Poirot story. He’d already enjoyed success with Murder On The Orient Express, that he starred in and directed, and now Death On The Nile – aka Moustache: Origins – seems to be doing pretty well too. The latter film was greenlit by 20^th Century Fox before it was acquired by Disney, and had its release held up for a number of reasons. But it’s here, and there had been the feeling that might be it. Yet not so. 20^th Century Studios president Steve Asbell has confirmed that there are now plans for a third Poirot adventure. Michael Green, the screenwriter of the previous two movies, has in fact already penned a screenplay, although which Agatha Christie story is being adapted this time hasn’t been announced. Asbell does confirm though that “we have a third script written, by Michael Green, that is a pretty daring shift in genre and in tone. It’s post-war Venice and an adaptation of one of the lesser-known novels. So I think you’ll see the moustache again”. He also confirms that Branagh would return, and also direct the new film. Branagh next has the Bee Gees biopic on his slate, once he’s finished his Oscar run with Belfast.
