Kathleen Kennedy hints Star Wars sequel trilogy characters may return

It seems we may not be done with Rey, Poe, Finn or Rose just yet, as Star Wars sequel trilogy characters might be set for an encore. Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy, has just had her contract to run the company extended until 2024. Whilst nobody quite seems to know what’s happening with Star Wars movies at the moment, Kennedy has suggested that despite the Skywalker Saga drawing to a close with 2019’s The Rise Of Skywalker, we may not have seen the last of its cast of characters. Whilst chatting to Empire, Kennedy said “certainly, those are not characters we’re going to forget. They will live on, and those are conversations that are going on with the creative team as well”. Whether that means we’ll see any of those characters pop up in their own TV series on Disney+ or in another movie would be nothing more than speculation at this point, especially given the rather haphazard state of the Star Wars film slate. Whether John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran would even want to return, given their less than positive experiences, is another matter altogether. In more positive news, Kennedy discussed the reunion of two Star Wars stars who are re-entering the fold. Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, key actors from George Lucas’ prequel trilogy, are back for the Kenobi TV show, with Kennedy stating that “the thing that was most exciting was being on the set and watching the two of them get excited. They hadn’t seen one another in a long time. I was surprised at just how incredibly emotional it was for each of them to find themselves back in these roles, and just realising how important Star Wars was to each of them. It was the beginning of their careers”. Whilst the TV side of Star Wars continues to develop nicely, things on the film front continue to look sparse, especially given that Rogue Squadron, the only Star Wars film on Disney’s production slate has now been removed.
