Catch your first glimpse of Kate Beckinsaleās imminent return to the action genre in Jolt, with the release of the first trailer.
Going back a couple of decades, Kate Beckinsale made quite the name for herself as an action hero with the Underworld franchise, following those films with a smattering of other action films such as Van Helsing. While she may not have been the very first female action star, she certainly blazed a trail for other actors to follow, and that trail was blazed with handguns, fancy kicks and great stunts.
Now Beckinsale is returning to the action genre with Jolt, a high-tempo action flick that looks set to give Beckinsale a chance to display her martial arts prowess once more, as well as delivering more than the odd pithy comeback. The film has a decent supporting cast too, with Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Jai Courtney, Bobby Cannavale, Laverne Cox and David Bradley all featuring.
The action comedy ā which has a flavour of the mighty Crank about it ā follows āa woman named Lindy who can only control her extreme murderous temperament with the help of a unique form of shock therapy. Lindy soon finds herself on a violent quest for revenge after her lover is murdered.ā
With its saturated colours and high-tempo music, thereās more than a whiff of John Wick and Atomic Blonde about Jolt, and we state that only as a good thing.
The film is directed by Hysteria's Tanya Wexler and will release on Amazon Prime on July 23rd. Until then, you can catch the trailer below.
