Kaitlyn Dever signs on to a new Romeo & Juliet film, Rosaline, based on the girl Romeo left behind.
Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) is attached to star in the new film Rosaline, recently acquired by 20th Century Studios. The film is a modern re-telling of the classic Shakespeare story Romeo & Juliet told from the eyes of Rosaline, Juliet’s cousin and the young girl Romeo mentions being infatuated with at the start of the play.
Some people aren’t so convinced of the need for another version of Romeo & Juliet, especially from the eyes of a character who we never physically see in the original, but the film is actually being adapted from an already existing book When You Were Mine, written by Rebecca Searle. Rosaline knows that she and Rob are destined to be together. Rose has been waiting for years for Rob to kiss her—and when he finally does, it’s perfect. But then Juliet moves back to town. Juliet, who used to be Rose’s best friend. Juliet, who now inexplicably hates her. Juliet, who is gorgeous, vindictive, and a little bit wild…and who has set her sights on Rob. Because Shakespeare may have gotten the story wrong, but we all still know how it ends.The script is being written by Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber who wrote not only 500 Days Of Summer but also the cinematic adaptations of John Green novels The Fault In Our Stars and Paper Towns. They know their way around a romance with an unexpected ending, so seem the perfect candidates for this project.
