Julie Delpy has penned The Barbarians, a comedy about Syrian refugees that she aims to direct – here are the first details.
Julie Delpy may be best known for starring in and co-writing Richard Linklater’s magnificent Before trilogy alongside Ethan Hawke, but she’s steadily built up quite a library of features for which she served and writer and director, including 2 Days In Paris and the follow up 2 Days In New York. Those are on top of features in her native France, including The Countess, Lolo and My Zoe.
It seems she has now set her next projects, which is called The Barbarians. Delpy describes the film as being “about Syrian refugees in France. It has a unique flavour. It is funny and dark. A lot of people have tackled this subject but I think my take is unique”.
Delpy will write, direct and star in the film. She is also working on A Dazzling Display Of Splendour, a screenplay she has been developing for over a decade, which is set in the 1900s during the early days of silent cinema.
No dates or further cast have been announced for The Barbarians, but we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
