A film adaptation of the popular Gears Of War video games series is heading to Netflix, and Jon Spaihts will write the screenplay.
It’s been a little while since we’ve had an update on the
Gears Of War adaptation. It is one of the most popular video game series in the world, and the franchise has sold more than 40 million copies across half a dozen games since the release of the original on Xbox in 2006.
The
Gears Of War games are set in a bleak future where humanity’s existence is being threatened by an alien race known as the Locust Horde. Shooting and carnage ensues. And the movies now beckon.
Other studios have flirted with getting a
Gears Of War project off the ground for years now, starting with New Line Cinema in 2007 before Universal commissioned a script in 2018.
The screenplay will be written by Jon Spaihts, who wrote or co-wrote films including
Passengers,
Doctor Strange,
Prometheus and
The Darkest Hour, and who also received an Oscar nomination for co-writing Denis Villeneuve’s epic
Dune.
Part 2 is due in cinemas on the 3
rd November.
Gears Of War is being produced for Netflix, no release date has been announced, we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
