Joker: Folie á Deux has another temporary title as production on the film begins in earnest: more here.
Joker: Folie á Deux is now known as
Juliet. With production on the project now fully underway, the working title of the movie has switched but fear not, itās no less classy. Whereas the original title that director, Todd Philips settled on for the sequel employed some highbrow Gallic phrasing, the new title,
Juliet goes full-on Shakespeare.
The title is a nod to the first filmās production which worked under the connected title of
Romeo, so perhaps the crew behind the upcoming
Joker sequel are hoping that the good fortune that accompanied that shoot will rub off on this one too. After all, 2019’s
Joker was a box-office behemoth, grossing over $1bn from a production budget of just $70m.
Whilst the original film was supposed to be a complete standalone story, those kinds of numbers meant that talk of a follow-up refused to go away and it proved to be thus with the announcement back in June of 2021 that a
Joker sequel would be happening. With the film set to be a dark musical love story, it looks like whatever
Juliet turns out to be, there’s some creatively risky thinking going on.
The casting of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn feels nothing less than inspired whilst Brendan Gleesonās involvement is also welcome. The film is said to take place largely inside of Arkham Asylum and weāre keen to see how Philips portrays one of the most interesting settings in the
Batman universe. Warner Bros has set an October 4th, 2024 date for the film, meaning it will arrive on the exact same day and month as its predecessor did back in 2019. Interest in this one is sure to be very high indeed and we’ll let you know more as we hear it.
