John Wick 5 is in early development at Lionsgate, chairman Joe Drake has teased ā along with a whole bunch of spin-offs.
John Wick 4 was originally thought to be the culmination of the series and the biggest showcase yet of what director Chad Stahelski, his team 87eleven and star Keanu Reeves can do. It boasted incredible action, the long awaited showdown between Reeves and Donnie Yen, and in theory a place where the saga could draw to a close.
Being Hollywood of course, any franchise can be resurrected and
John Wick is no exception, as Lionsgate chairman Joe Drake revealed that
John Wick 5 is in the early stages of development.
He said in a statement that āwhat is official is that, as you know,
Ballerina is the first spinoff that comes out next year. We’re in development on three others, including five and including the television series,
The Continental, which will be airing soonā.
Most of that we new. This bit we didnāt. “We’re building out the world and when that [John Wick]
5 movie comes, it will be organic ā will be organically grown out of how we’re starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick.”
Ballerina is directed by Len Wiseman from a screenplay by Shay Hatten and Emerald Fennell. Taking place between the events of
John Wick 3: Parabellum and
John Wick 4, Ana De Armas is Ballerina assassin Rooney, who is hunting the her familyās killers. The late Lance Reddick, Ian McShane, Angelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Norman Reedus star in the film, with Keanu Reeves making a cameo as Wick. It will be released in the UK on 7th June 2024.
The Continental is a prequel television series that will focus on the titular hotel for assassins as it tells the story of how Winston Scott, Ian McShaneās character in the films, came to be the proprietor in the 1970s. Colin Woodell stars as Winston, alongside Mel Gibson. It will land on the Peacock streaming service in September 2023.
Weāll keep you updated as we hear more.
