The life of the late John McAfee – and it’s a heck of a story – is heading to the big screen, with both a new narrative feature film and a documentary too.
The late John McAfee sprung to fame flogging antivirus software for computers, but by the end of his life, things had taken a very different turn. McAfee was firmly into the world of cryptocurrencies, lived in a jungle compound in Berlize, faced a murder charge and was – at the time of his death – in a Spanish prison on tax charges.
McAfee died in June this year, reportedly by suicide, something his wife contests.
A few years ago on his Twitter feed, McAfee has asked if someone was interested in penning the story of his life, and author Mark Eglinton spent hours with him in 2019. The result is No Domain: The John McAfee Tapes, that’s going to be published next year.
McAfee’s story has already been part told in Gringo: The Dangerous Life Of John McAfee back in 2016. But now the rights to Eglinton’s book have been acquired by AMDC Films and Amanda Milius. You might recognise the surname there, but Amanda Milius has long stepped out of the shadow of her famous father, making the hit documentary Plot Against The President. She’s now looking to turn No Domain into a narrative-drive feature film, with a separate documentary too.
Inevitably, it’s early days for the project, but plenty of big Hollywood names have been circling the McAfee story for years. We wait and see If they remain interested or suitable for whatever approach Milius takes.
