Sing Street director John Carney will be bringing the mighty Bee Gees to life on the silver screen, it has been announced.
John Carney, the director of the excellent musical films Sing Street and Once, has landed the job of directing the planned Bee Gees biopic, it’s being reported.
The project will chart the rise of the original Kings of Disco and follows in the successful footsteps of Rocket Man and Bohemian Rhapsody, both of which followed the rise of global 70s sensations, Elton John and Queen.
Personnel on this project have shifted at a dizzying rate though, so let’s see if Carney and his screenwriter, John Logan can veer this one into production. Former names attached or heavily rumoured to be involved include Anthony McCarten, the Bohemian Rhapsody scribe, Bradley Cooper and a ‘dream team’ of Kenneth Branagh and Ben Elton that was reported a year ago. Either way, Carney seems like an inspired choice whilst Logan of course, has penned the likes of Hugo and Gladiator.
Hopefully, this time the project comes together and we can all find ourselves ‘grooving’ along to some of the Bee Gees most memorable tracks. GK Films is producing the project in partnership with Amblin for Paramount. We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
