A24 has released the first trailer for Men, a horror-drama starring Oscar nominee Jessie Buckley – Alex Garland writes and directs.
Having just been nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars for her role in The Lost Daughter, Jessie Buckley now tackles horror. She stars in the new trailer for A24’s Men, directed and written by Alex Garland. He has previously helmed sci-fi and horror films like Annihilation and Ex Machina, so will presumably be in his element with this creepy tale.
In Men, Buckley plays Harper, a woman who goes on a solo holiday in the English countryside after the death of her ex-husband. The supposedly calming country landscapes become anything but when she experiences strange occurrences and visions that seem to be pursuing her. The apparition that stalks her is played by Rory Kinnear, who had a recurring role in Daniel Craig’s Bond films as MI6 agent Bill Tanner.
Take a look at the unsettling trailer, which sets the scene for a tense, dread-filled horror story –
Also in the cast is I May Destroy You's Paapa Essidou, though there aren’t any details available on his character. According to A24, Men is set for release on 20th May this year.
This isn’t the only chilling tale Jessie Buckley has been working on. Also in the pipeline is religious-themed drama Women Talking, based on the book by Miriam Toews. The film follows a group of Christian women who have found themselves repeatedly violated when they sleep at night. These attacks are blamed on demons coming to punish them for their sins. The story is set in the aftermath of these events, when the women meet in secret to discuss how they should react and deal with their trauma. The film is also set to star Frances McDormand and is directed by Canadian actor and director Sarah Polley.
We’ll bring you more news on Men as we hear it.
