Jennifer Lopez is developing new big screen musicals, with a view to starring in at least one of them herself: more details here.
Jennifer Lopez is a busy person. As well as signing a production deal with Netflix, the in-demand actor and producer has now put together a deal with Skydance to reimagine a series of classic musicals for the big screen, including shows by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Rogers and Hammerstein.
Lopez also reportedly has an option to star in at least one of these films herself too.
Also, one of the musicals that is reported to be already underway is a small screen adaptation of Oklahoma! It’d mark the first appearance of the popular stage show on TV screens. Concord, who has partnered with Skydance and Lopez for the deal, reportedly has access to a wealth of classic musicals, some of which we could soon be adapted for the big screen, including: Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, South Pacific, The Sound of Music The King & I, State Fair, Show Boat, Carousel, Some Enchanted Evening, Flower Drum Song, Pipe Dream, and A Connecticut Yankee.
A few of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s shows are reportedly part of the deal as well, including Cats (although they might leave that one for a while…), Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Phantom Of The Opera, Evita, Sunset Boulevard, Starlight Express, The Woman In White, Whistle Down the Wind and Aspects Of Love.
Plenty to consider there, so it will be interesting to see over the coming months, which of these projects Lopez and her partners decide to bring to fruition. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
